This is my first blog and the reason I am doing it is I wanted to keep a record of all the things I am doing this year so I hope you enjoy!

This for me is a very good year because I have a lot going on such as D of E and German Exchange. D of E stands for Duke of Edinburgh, which is an award challenge many young people across England take on. There are four sections to D of E:
- Volunteering
- Physical (A fancy name for sport basically!)
- Skill (such as an instrument or something)
- An assessed expedition (where you walk about 28-30km over a two day period with two or three other girls and two or three other boys)

The expedition is an essential part of the challenge and I am doing my walk in June. The other three parts you have to do one for six months and two for three months with an equivalent of one hour a week. I think for my physical I am going to do Judo and this is going to be the one I do for six months as I already do it and I know that I will be able to achieve one hour a week. For my skill I am going to do fire cadets which is where you learn what sort of things that real fire fighters learn and you mess around with ladders and hoses.

For my volunteering I was going to work in a charity shop with my friend but she said it wouldn't be very interesting and if we are going to commit we might as well find something we can really enjoy so unfortunately she dropped out. I think she had a good point and I am going to look for something else I can do that will interest me a bit more.

As well I mentioned German Exchange which I will also be doing this year after D of E in late July and early June. My exchange has already been to visit me and I hope she a great time because I certainly did! I think I managed to fit in a lot more in that one week than I would normally in a month just so I could show her as much of where I live and the things we have in England that they don't have in Germany as I could. I will be going to visit her and her family in Halle Saale and hope that I can have as much fun over there as I had when she came over here.

I will hopefully be writing a little entry every week and keeping you updated on all the stuff that is happening in my year. Hopefully I might be able to get some vlogs up on youtube later in the year when I am doing my expedition and when I am in Germany so I will post about those and you can take a quick look.
